Biocides, also known as fungicides, algicidal agents, microbial killing agents, etc., usually refer to chemical agents that can effectively control or kill microorganisms - bacteria, fungi, and algae - in water systems. Industrial biocides

According to the sterilization mechanism, it can be divided into two categories: oxidizing fungicides and non oxidizing fungicides. Oxidative fungicides are usually strong oxidizing agents, which mainly achieve their bactericidal goals by undergoing oxidative reactions with metabolic enzymes in bacteria. Common oxidizing fungicides include chlorine gas, chlorine dioxide, bromine, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Non oxidizing fungicides act on specific parts of microorganisms in a toxic manner, thereby destroying their cells or life forms and achieving bactericidal effects. Common non oxidizing fungicides include chlorophenols, isothiazolinones, quaternary ammonium salts, etc.

Biocides are classified by source. Except for agricultural antibiotics, which belong to biological fungicides, the main varieties are chemically synthesized fungicides.
